Welcome to Camp Moonhwa


What is Camp Moonhwa?

Camp Moonhwa is a Korean culture camp held yearly in Rochester, Minnesota. This year camp will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. 

Campers range from Kindergarteners through 9th grade. Campers usually have Korean ancestry or are relatives to someone with Korean ancestry.

What is a Korean culture camp?

A culture camp is a chance for children to celebrate and share Korean heritage and culture, meet old and new friends, and have lots of fun. Most of the attendees are Korean adoptees or their siblings but anyone interested in Korea is welcome. Camp is held daily from 9 AM to 3 PM.

What can you and your camper expect?

At Camp Moonhwa, your camper can expect fun and educational classes that teach Korean skills or culture. Most classes are taught by people with Korean ancestry, if not people born in Korea. Lunch is served daily and features traditional Korean cuisine.   

Typical class schedules included the following:

  • Korean dance
  • Korean drum
  • Tae Kwon Do
  • Korean Music
  • Korean culture
  • Korean language
  • various art classes

Other classes that have been included in schedules include the following:

  • Korean cooking
  • Korean storytelling
  • Meditation
  • K-pop
  • Career panel, where Koreans in various occupations discuss their careers.

Additional offerings include the following:

  • Campers in the 6th-9th grades can attend an off-site overnight experience for an extra fee. This includes team-building activities during the day and food and fun activities in the evening.
  • Evening parent sessions the week of camp that range from parenting seminars to cooking classes.
  • A marketplace with Korean themed handicrafts, books, art, accessories, snacks and more.
  • An end-of-the-week program for friends and family featuring the campers' crafts, art projects, music, Tae Kwon Do and more. 
  • A pre-program lunch will also be provided for friends and family, tickets are available for purchase during the week of camp.

When is Camp Moonhwa?

Camp Moonhwa will be June 24-28, 2024.
The overnight event (for 6th-9th grade campers) will be June 18-19, 2024.


Who Runs Camp Moonhwa?

Camp Moonhwa is organized, planned, and run by volunteers--typically campers' parents. Teachers receive some payments. If you are interested in teaching or volunteering, please email campmoonhwamn@gmail.com.
